a few days ago an important meeting was held at the Fiera di Roma, venue for the next ITTF World Masters Table Tennis Championships – Rome 2024 during which the Organizing Committee met with ITTF representatives to make important decisions concerning the event, that I want to share with you.
At the beginning of our meeting, first of all, we wanted to celebrate the first goal achieved by the event even before it took place. In fact, Rome 2024 WMC has already far exceeded, and in just 50 days from the opening of registrations, the number of participants in the Alicante 2016 WVC where the final participants were 4561.
Therefore, Rome 2024 WMC with its 5,000 current players will go down in history for having become the largest table tennis tournament ever!
After that, given the large number of registrations received until today, the interest and enthusiasm that our event continues to arouse all over the world, after a careful analysis of the spaces available and the installations to be put in place, we decided, jointly with the ITTF, to raise the limit of 5,000 athletes which had been initially set and which would have deprived many athletes of the possibility of being present at Rome 2024.
The number of athletes has been increased to 6,000!!
Therefore, there will still be about 1,000 places more available for the Masters Community from all over the world, thus guaranteeing the opportunity, for those who want it, to be part of the history of our sport and to be able to say «I was there!»
So please help us spread the information and urge your friends, not yet registered, to do so as soon as possible given the speed with which this is happening!
During the meeting we also updated the general program of the event (that in any case could still undergo some few changes) which will therefore give you the possibility to plan your trip to Rome with greater certainty and awareness. I invite you to consult it on Rome 2024 official website.
To this regard, however, take into due consideration that players who have not registered by Sunday 7 July 2024 at 8 p.m. will be excluded from the doubles and mixed doubles event. Also note that the deadline to find a doubles partner has been set for Monday, June 10, 2024. After this date, your doubles partner will be chosen randomly.
I remind you that to facilitate your search for a doubles partner we have created a specific Facebook page WMC ROME 2024 – COMMUNITY which has already allowed many people to find a partner that meets their characteristics. If you haven’t already done so, sign up to the page and become part of the WMC Community.
