The championships

The 2024 World Table Tennis Masters Championships will be the first Championships organized under the umbrella of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) and will take place in Rome from 06 to 14 July at the Nuova Fiera di Roma.

The decision to bid Italy and Rome for the 2024 World Masters Championships came immediately after the organization of the recent European Veterans Championships held in Rimini in the summer of 2022 which were judged by all the participants to be a great success, as demonstrated by the results of the survey sent to the participants after the event and some of the results of which are shown below.

Our goal is to organize an event that once again allows players from all corners of the world to live an unforgettable experience not only for the quality of the tournament we will organize but also for the beauty and uniqueness of the city that will host them for the first time in the history of the event and which is universally considered one of the most beautiful cities in the world.

We strongly hope that this first edition of the ITTF World Masters Table Tennis Championships will allow us to hosting the entire world tennis community of athletes over 40 leaving each of you feeling that you have had a historic and unforgettable experience made up not only of sports but of lots of friendship, sharing and fun.

Participation criteria and categories

All players (including athletes with disabilities) over 40 years and those who will have 40 during the year 2024 (born after 1984) can register for the World Masters Championships.

The 2024 World Masters Championships will award titles in the following age categories:

  • 40-44 years (born between 1984 and 1980)
  • 45-49 years (born between 1979 and 1975)

  • 50-54 years (born between 1974 and 1970)

  • 55-59 years (born between 1969 and 1965)

  • 60-64 years (born between 1964 and 1960)

  • 65-69 years (born between 1959 and 1955)

  • 70-74 years (born between 1954 and 1950)

  • 75-79 years (born between 1949 and 1945)

  • 80-84 years (born between 1944 and 1940)

  • 85-89 years (born between 1939 and 1935)

  • more than 90 years old (born until 1934)

Each player must participate in their age category. Exceptions will be made for doubles pairs, where players may not belong to the same event category. In such cases, the pair will compete in the age group of the youngest player.

Maximum number of participants

A maximum of 5,000 players may participate in the World Masters Championships in Rome.

A waiting list will be created should the number of applications be greater.

In this case, the Organizing Committee, together with the event’s Competition Manager, will evaluate possible changes in the layout to increase the number of playing areas that will be set up within the facility.

The additional places will, therefore, be allocated to people on the waiting list exclusively:

  1. in the event of any changes to the lay-out in order to increase the number of playing areas;
  2. In case of any waivers by registered athletes.
